"Proud To Be" - LGBT+ Pride Package

"Proud To Be" - LGBT+ Pride Package

This week we launched an exciting new gift-box, our Proud to be Pride Package in honour of LGBT+ history month.

This package is a way to show support for an individual on their coming out journey. Coming out can be scary and it takes a lot of bravery to be your authentic self.

There’s no right or wrong way to come out, your sexual orientation and gender identity are valid and it’s your choice on how, when and if you decide to come out.

If you know someone who’s come out recently as LGBT+ why not send them our “Proud to be: LGBT+ Pride Package” it’s packed full of goodies to show them your support.

How to support someone when they come out

Here’s some advice on how best to support a loved one if they come out to you....

  1. Thank them for letting you into their life and acknowledge their bravery to come out.
  2. Educate yourself on the LGBT+ community so you can be a good ally.
  3. Let them know you’re always there for them.
  4. Challenge any homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia in your social circles.
  5. Check in with your friend on a regular basis, coming out can be a stressful and worrying time so it’s important to check in.
  6. Point them to resources like StonewallMind Out and Switchboard.

Phrases you can use to come out

The charity Stonewall have compiled the following phrases you could use to come out...

‘I’ve been thinking about my sexuality a lot recently and have realised that I’m gay. It would mean a lot if you could tell me that you still love and accept me.’

‘You’re important to me, so I want to share with you that I’m pansexual. This means I’m attracted to people regardless of their gender.’

‘Could we please have a conversation about my gender identity? I think I’m trans and would really appreciate your support with this journey.’

‘I’ve realised that I don’t feel attraction to others. I want to share with you that I’m ace.’
