How to manage stress at work

How to manage stress at work

Stress is something everyone faces in their lives, particularly at work. [1]On average, a typical UK adult feels stressed approximately 8.27 days a month. That’s more than twice a week. We want to share some of the best ways you can manage that stress. In order to make your day-to-day work routine a little more enjoyable, and a lot less stressful.

Understand more about stress

A good start in managing stress is to understand more about what it is, why it happens, how it affects you, and what you can do to prevent it. By reading this post you’re already on the right track to combatting stress!

Learn some different coping techniques

For every single cause of stress you encounter, there’s a coping technique, so try some out and see which ones are most effective for you. Here’s some example techniques we think work well universally:

  1. Meditation – even taking 5 minutes at work to do some breathing exercises can work wonders!
  2. Get some regular exercise into your routine
  3. Improve your sleep.
  4. Take a holiday – you’re entitled to it!
  5. Dedicate some time for you – our wellbeing care packages might give you a hand with this one.

Live a physically healthier life

It’s important to remember that your physical health is ever so heavily linked with your mental health and wellbeing. The lack of activity in corporate life most certainly doesn’t help your wellbeing and stress levels! Try to maintain a more active lifestyle and improve any unhealthy eating habits. We can’t stress enough how much better you’ll feel after keeping your body properly fuelled.

Have some me time

Something you can do out of work that will make your time in work far less stressful is working on your work-life balance. Life doesn’t have to be constant worry about what you’ve got to do tomorrow or what you didn’t get done today. Taking some time in the evenings to relax and focus on yourself can reduce a lot of stress – and as mentioned earlier the contents of one of our wellbeing care packages is bound to help with this one!

Work smarter not harder

Try to break down your daily tasks and prioritise work – one of the most overwhelming things at work can simply be, seeing how much work you’ve got to do. If that’s the case then breaking your day into bits and figuring out which tasks are most important can really help reduce stress. The notebook in our “Destination wellness care package” is perfect for getting a productive stress relieving to-do list written down!
