Why everyone is responsible for well-being at work

Why everyone is responsible for well-being at work

It’s already established in the corporate world that well-being at work is important. However, it’s also fairly common that the responsibility of well-being falls upon managers and HR.

Here are a few ways people in different roles can contribute toward better workplace wellbeing.

Employees

It’s important for employees to actively involve themselves in the well-being culture at the office. Making sure that initiatives put in place are effective by feeding back to managers. It’s also important for employees to focus on ensuring that the office vibe is right! It’s hard to maintain good workplace well-being in a gloomy setting. People coming to work with a positive mindset makes a huge difference to office well-being and is an extremely important foundation for any initiatives put in place.

Managers

Managers are responsible for implementing well-being support initiatives, and encouraging conversations about mental health and general feeling toward the workplace to take place. It’s the role of a manager to create an environment in which employees feel comfortable discussing well-being. If managers do this well it's easy for employees to come into work with a positive mindset about improving mental health and wellbeing in the office.

HR

It's HR’s responsibility emphasise to senior leaders the importance of workplace wellbeing. This should ensure that there are more serious investments into the people that make things possible! People make corporations successful as a unit so investing in every person equally is key. Perhaps HR could also get some well-being giftboxes? We think that's a pretty good idea ?

Why should I try to make a difference?

If you’re a more senior person within a company this should be obvious. When everyone in the company is satisfied that their well-being at work is looked after, productivity improves as a result.

For employees, it may seem a bit futile at times, but it's your responsibility too! Making an effort to improve well-being in the workplace is easy and it's sure to benefit your own experience, and your colleagues' experience day to day working within an office environment.

How can I make a difference?

Regardless of your role at work, there is always a way you can impact office wellbeing. Even though not everyone is responsible for implementing initiatives and managing the work environment. It is everyone’s responsibility to foster a culture of care. With the tips above and an effort in general to make work a happier place, every individual at work can make a difference.

We hope this article has made it clear that everyone has a role to play in making the office a positive environment for mental health and well-being. That role may vary in size but with a little bit of effort from everyone rather than a few people the office can become a much less mentally taxing environment.
