Gifts for students studying abroad

Gifts for students studying abroad

Are you looking for gifts for a student studying abroad? It can be hard when your daughter or son is studying abroad. So if you are looking at ways to connect with your child from afar then sending a gift is a great idea. Particularly after Brexit it is difficult to understand what and how to send your student a gift. That is why we have pulled together all the important information you need to know when considering whether to send gifts for students studying abroad. Here at Brown Paper Packages we like to think we are experts at sending gifts and want to make it easier for you to be able to support loved ones through difficult transitions or times in life. We strongly believe that a gift can give a 'Life Lift' in more ways that one.

Sending a gift with in the EU

Since January 1st 2021 the UK left the EU & the single market including the customs union. This has impacted sending a gift from the UK abroad within in the EU. You can no longer send food items which are prohibited - these include for example chocolate, teas, biscuits, trail bars, dips, crisps and sweets.

Further more if your student is studying in Spain, as well as prohibiting food, there are additional restrictions of not allowing any bath or beauty products to be imported into the country. In the case of Brown Paper Packages items not allowed inside a package sent to Spain include bath salts, balms, perfumes, soaps, nail varnish and any beauty pro facemasks. The good new is Spacemasks (Self warmiing eye masks) and fabric facemasks are accepted.

Do I Have to Pay Duty on Gifts Sent Abroad

You need to understand if the gifting company is registered duty paid. If not the recipient will have to pay duty on top. Because ideally you don't want your recipient to pay taxes / admin fees we are registered delivered duty paid which means we, the company, will bear the risks and costs including duties, taxes and other charges on your behalf. This is applicable to packages delivered to Republic of Ireland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, and Spain. This means you will not pay or receive any further charges after checkout to deliver your goods.

For EU countries not listed above, we can still delivery our packages but please note your recipient will have to pay duty & local tax charges - typically around 10-15% of your package price. We will in turn refund you, the purchaser, these fees but it is unavoidable red tape that we have to export into these countries. Please do contact us at support@brownpaperpackages.co.uk if you need clarification or any further import information to your destination country.
