Care Package Delivery

If you are looking to send a care package to a friend then here are the options available;

  • Use a reputable care package company and choose from a pre-packaged care package or build your own from list of available products.
  • Or, create and send your own personalised care package with local items you know they'll love.

What to put in a care package

When sending a care package you need to consider the weight of your parcel. You can weigh individual items on a pair of kitchen scales or take them to your local post office. When sending a care package in the UK via Royal Mail a Small Parcel is plenty big enough. As long as your parcel dimensions fit within this criteria (45cm long, 35cm Wide, 16 Thick) you have 2kg in weight. It's possible to send a care package in a Royal Mail Large Letter format but it must not exceed the thickness of 2.5cm and the maximum weight is 700g which is limiting. It's not hugely cheaper but if you are sending multiple boxes this might be a good option. If you can limit the weight further to 500g it will work out cheaper still.

Do consider a tracked postal service or courier service to ensure you can track your parcel and that it arrives as you wish. Especially if the content value is high. Some care package websites offer a courier tracked service as standard for this reason.

If you are creating your own care package and are considering what items to include in your care package then take a read of our blog on the Best things to send in a care package in 2023. This contain advice on contents and boxes.

How to send a Care Package to hospital

Sending a care package to a hospital can be difficult for a number of reasons. However, it's lovely thing to do for someone stuck in hospital with limited activities or visitors. Each hospital will take a different length of time for your care package to reach the patient's ward. If the patient is only in hospital a couple of days there is a strong chance your care package won't arrive before they leave. If the patient leaves before the parcel has arrived then inform the ward a parcel is due and leave your number. They will then contact you when the care package arrives to collect.

To increase the chances of a successful care package delivery include the ward number and full hospital building address. Also try to include the Patient MRN number, in case the patient moves wards. If a parcel is lost in hospital for over a week contact the hospital PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service). Provide the patient MRN number or home postcode and they may or may not be willing to locate the parcel and help it to be delivered.

By using a tracked delivery service you can prove your parcel was delivered. If you would like help delivering a care package to a hospital we are always here to help.

How to send a care package overseas

Are you looking into how to send a care package abroad from the UK? It can be difficult depending on the region but here are some considerations when sending a care package abroad. After Brexit it became more difficult to send care package parcels to Europe. Avoid your care package getting stuck in customs by making sure you don't include prohibited items. These mainly include food, seeds and liquids. You should check this with your chosen postal firm as prohibited items may differ. You also need to understand that you may need to pay duty.

For international care package delivery we recommend selecting a care package company with DDP (Delivery Duties Paid). Thus ensuring that your care package clears customs and that Duty is paid. Brown Paper Packages will do this and will alert you if you have prohibited items in your care package. Once you are familiar with the region and postal service you can easily send home comforts to loved your ones. It is also always a good idea to head to your local post office for advice.
