The Manopause

The Manopause

The Manopause

Here at Brown Paper Packages we want to highlight issues that matter to men... We have been hearing more and more about Manopause so we wanted to delve deeper into this topic...

Is it real?

Manopause sometimes named men's menopause is understood to come on as a result of lifestyle or psychological problems...

Male testosterone does drop at around 2% a year from around the age of 30 - 40 but it is not thought to be the driving factor like in the menopause for women, which is caused by a sudden drop in hormone changes. In some cases testosterone deficiency can result in Male Menopause symptoms but stress, anxiety and depression typically brought on by work, relationship issues, and money problems is thought to be the main cause.

Either way with Males aged 45-49 continuing to have the highest suicide rate according to Samaritans we think the topic of Manopause needs far more research and understanding.

What is Manopause?

According to the NHS the male menopause (Manopause) is when men experience physical and emotional symptoms when they reach their late 40s to early 50s including;

  • depression
  • loss of sex drive
  • erectile dysfunction
  • mood swings and irritability
  • loss of muscle mass and reduced ability to exercise
    fat redistribution, such as developing a large belly or "man boobs"
  • a general lack of enthusiasm or energy
  • difficulty sleeping (insomnia) or increased tiredness
  • poor concentration and short-term memory

Why it Matters
