Brew Monday – 10 ways to support employee wellbeing this January

The 16th of January 2023 is Brew Monday, a reminder that life can often be tricky to navigate mentally. This day serves as a marker of awareness to remind everyone to look out for each other. Even in a corporate setting. With that in mind we’ve come up with a list of 10 ways to support employee wellbeing this January.

Improve communication

Developing a better understanding of your employees will help you support them. Conducting surveys to ask questions such as ‘is your workload manageable?’ or ‘Do you feel like you are maintaining a good work/life balance?’ Can make it accessible for employees to express whether you’re doing enough to support their wellbeing.

Create more chances for flexible working

Employee’s work/life balance can be much more easily maintained if you give them the flexibility to do so. Ensure your employees are happy and healthy by giving them the opportunities to switch days, and work from home if they need to.

Accept and act upon feedback

Employees know their own needs better than anyone else. Creating a comfortable environment where feedback is encouraged and acted upon can vastly improve employee wellbeing.

Give recognition

Recognition is an easy way to ensure employees understand that they’re valued. Financial and non-financial rewards are equally as effective but most effective when combined. Our brown paper packages are a great form of recognition. Why not browse our site: https://www.brownpaperpackages.co.uk/

Check up on your remote workers

It’s easy for remote workers to feel detached from the team as it can be quite isolating working outside of the office. Make sure they get equal amounts of attention to their wellbeing and are included in work events and meetings where possible. Neglecting remote workers can really affect wellbeing and camaraderie within the team.

Look at the growth of individuals

Individual growth is very important when it comes to maintaining wellbeing. Ensure that there is room for growth in everyone’s role and that employees can speak up if they feel like it’s hard for them to develop their skills so that changes can be made.

Create more social events

A key part of wellbeing is a healthy social life – and work should be included as an aspect of that. Creating social events can improve the closeness of a team and in turn improve wellbeing amongst everyone.

Encourage healthier lifestyle choices (Don’t enforce!)

A healthy lifestyle is key to better wellbeing. In the office, it should be easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Try to create an environment in which there aren’t many obstacles for people to eat right and take time away from the desk to maintain their wellbeing.

Make performance reviews consistent and effective

Performance reviews are great for employee development, which as we discussed earlier is beneficial to wellbeing. Giving employees a clear idea of where there at and developing a strategy on how they can improve is a great way to improve wellbeing and communication between employees and the employer. It’s crucial to maintain the communication and consistency so that employees are always aware of their situation.

Check up on employee financial wellbeing

Financial situations are a huge cause of stress for everyone when they occur. In the office it’s worth thinking about whether some employees could be experiencing stress because of finances. Financial rewards and support are a great way to try and minimize financial stress and boost the overall wellbeing of employees.
