What makes a good snack vs a bad snack? | Boundless Guest Blog

Here at Brown Paper Packages we are proud of our products which is why we love to showcase the knowledge of our amazing brands.

We often ask ourselves here at HQ “what makes a healthy snack?”… Well the team at Boundless are here to offer their expert opinion and we are so excited to share it with you.

If you’re looking to support a friend or loved one who is not feeling their best then healthy easy snacks make a great caring addition to any of our care packages.

What makes a good snack vs a bad snack?

Hey there, we’re Boundless & we’re here to deliver gut happy snacking! We know this time of year can be hard to make healthy snack choices, and as lovers of healthy snack ideas we thought now would be a good time to share some… So, the age-old question:

“What makes a good snack vs a bad snack?”

Well, the answer is pretty simple to us –

1. Do you like the snack? Then it’s a good one!

2. Do you not? Then chuck that bad snack aside!

It’s easy to get swept up in the notion of “good vs bad” food choices, but ultimately we aren’t here to judge. Snacking is all about enjoyment, and that’s why we’ve curated a snacking range that tasted good and does good. After all, a happy gut = a happy mind & body.

We totally get the importance of looking after you & your gut – in fact, we champion this! So, if you’re looking for a more nutritionally dense snack choice, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve often received the question ourselves, “are nuts a healthy snack, considering they’re high in calories?” – and it’s time to dispel that myth.

A Nutritional Powerhouse

When choosing a snack, it’s important to look at just what those calories are doing for you. Take a look at nuts & seeds for example, a total powerhouse of nutrients! We use blends of almonds, cashews, pecans & walnuts in our snacks – a deliberate choice due to the roles they play in our microbiome. We’re talking potassium to aid digestion, magnesium’s anti-inflammatory benefits, zinc to boost the immune system – the list goes on…

Balance Is Key

Remember the healthy living plate from school? It’s time to dig that concept back out! When asking yourself which snacks are healthy, think about the split portion plates often used when creating healthy snacks for kids. Why not adopt that concept as adults?! Building a snack plate with a source of protein, fats and carbohydrates is a great way to keep ourselves fuller for longer, make more conscious choices & meet our daily goals. Don’t forget those greens either! Adding a source of fruit & veg to those grazing boards is a brilliant way to up our daily micronutrient intake.

Get Gut Happy

Did you know up to 95% of serotonin (our happy hormone) is produced in the gut? It’s pretty clear why we need to keep our microbiome happy! If you have a gut you need to look after it, and good food = a good mood couldn’t be more true: your gut needs a variety of nutrients & fibre sources to run properly. That’s why activate all of our snacks! By soaking out the Phytic Acid that sits in nuts, seeds & grains we can increase our nutrient uptake whilst reducing inflammation & bloating. Your snacking game just got upgraded.

Ultimately, snacking is all about enjoyment. If there’s one thing to take away from this blog it’s to ditch the guilt, choose snacks that YOU love and #GetGutHappy!
