If you’re single or in a relationship this Valentine's, why not take some time to prioritise your own wellbeing on the day of love.  

Self-love: regard for one’s own wellbeing and happiness  

There are numerous benefits to practicing self-love and self-care. It can improve sleep, boost your mental health, relationships as well as providing you the tools to cope better with stress. 

Don’t think of self-care as another chore on your list but see it as a time to prioritise yourself and to do things you enjoy... self-care is not selfish it's essential!

Not sure where to start? Here are some great ideas for self-care.... whatever your budget. 

 

Take yourself out on a date!  

Who says a date has to be with another person- treat yourself to a cinema ticket , a meal out or wander round an art gallery.  

 

Pamper 

If you haven’t got the funds for a trip to the local spa, why not have a DIY spa day at home. Take a nice long bath, put on a face mask to cleanse those pores and maybe even paint your nails.  

 

Recharge  

If you’re introverted like me, you probably need alone time to recharge, cancel a plan and have a cosy night in; curled up with a good book and a cup of tea 

 

Reach out for help 

There’s no greater act of self-love than taking care of your mental health. If you’re able to do so, book a session with a therapist even if it's just a one off to get some worries off your chest or speak to your GP about how you’re feeling.  

 

Buy yourself a gift 

This could be something small like a coffee from your local café, a cute plant or a new pair of socks.  

 

Go for an explore! 

Is there anywhere in your local area that you’ve always wanted to have a look around but never found the time? Maybe it’s a new vintage shop, nature spot or a trip down memory lane.  

 

Start a self care journal 

Journaling is a great tool for your mental health, write about what you’re grateful for and what you’re most proud of 

 

Cook a meal 

This can be whatever you like, pancakes, spaghetti bolognaise, bangers and mash.... whatever is your comfort food. 

 

Read a good book

Have a cuppa and a chat with a friend 

Why not pop round to see a loved one, stick the kettle on and have a good catch up.
